SEED PROJECT

In its fight against poverty, Charité Chrétienne pour Personnes en Détresse works hand in hand with local communities and has designed Seed Projects to enable volunteers and missionaries  from around the world to directly help people in need while promoting cultural exchanges.

Seed Projects are small-scale projects carried out by a local church to materially help poor people reduce poverty, such as physical or spiritual poverty. They are carried out so that the people served and those who observe what is happening are blessed and give glory to God for what they experience and see. [Read more]

TOURISM IN TOGO

Togo is an exceptionally beautiful, and the people here are super friendly. If you prefer the road less traveled, CCPD has attractive destinations for you. And that’s precisely what makes it ideal for those who prefer to explore places off the beaten track! It is a great diversity of landscapes ranges from lakes and palm-fringed beaches along the Atlantic coastline to the rolling forested hills in the center; heading further north, the mantle of lush forest is replaced by the light-green and yellow tinges of savannah.

Togo is probably one of the nicest places in Western Africa. Roads are pretty good, distances small, beaches sandy and white, people friendly, hills and mountains waiting to be explored. The capital city, Lomé is an excellent place to start your trip. Lots of daytrips are arranged by CCPD.

Togo is an excellent playground for hikers – there's no better eco-friendly way to experience the country's savage beauty than on foot. Kpalime is a beautiful hilly area perfect for trekking and hiking. In Togo, you will fall in love with colors, sights, sounds, and tastes. Though it is one of the smallest countries in Africa, Togo is proof that small is better.

Although you can volunteer in Togo anytime of the year with CCPD, there is no better time than the summer months to get your butt on a plane and begin helping others. If you like to read and children, then consider getting involved with teaching volunteer program in Togo, if your passion is in sports, then our sports coaching volunteer program will then be perfect match, if your passion is environment conservation, then you will have the best experience ever and so many other programs. You will be able to serve and observe, and your host community will really use and appreciate your time. If you are present and flexible in any environment, your impact will truly shake the world.

Volunteer Projects in Togo

Volunteering in Togo is such a wonderful experience; you have the opportunity to teach and learn at the same time! Dedicating your time, energy and skills as volunteer in Togo is a great way to spend your gap year, career break, or extended vacation. You can gain valuable work experience without any previous experience, and you are not required to have a qualification.

English Teaching Volunteer Work

When you volunteer to teach in Togo, you’ll be given an active role in the classroom. You can also assist students with their homework. You are not required to have a TEFL or TESOL qualification. Your English speaking abilities and enthusiasm are all that is needed to make a difference in schools where there is a lack of conversational English language teaching. The impact you'll have on your students will be obvious as they start to develop their language abilities, but you'll also be part of a much larger network of volunteers, which is making a positive and ongoing contribution to the wider community in Togo.

Construction Volunteer Work

The construction volunteer work program is one of our most popular volunteer projects in Togo. With CCPD projects, you will be volunteering in a community. No matter your schedule or your talents you will always get an opportunity to get involved with the construction of school buildings, water and sanitation facilities etc. You are not required to have any building skills; rather you will enjoy working with local volunteers like qualified workers and develop new abilities quickly.

Environment Conservation Volunteer Work

The conservation volunteer work offers to the volunteer a great opportunity to explore life in rural Togo, live and work amongst the locals and make a difference through daily activities such as tree planting, pruning, schools and community tree planting outreaches etc. Volunteers are not required to have any prior experience with environmental or conservation work, however they are essential to this project, proving an enthusiastic, knowledgeable and skilled workforce to pass their knowledge on to an impoverished population who need to protect their natural environment for a sustainable future. [Read more]

During your stay

KPALIME, A PLACE WHERE EVERY VOLUNTEER WANTS TO GO

When you choose to volunteer in Togo with Charité Chrétienne pour Personnes en Détresse, you will be living in Kpalimé in Togo. Kpalimé is a city in the Plateaux Region of Togo, 120 km north of Lomé and 15 km from the Ghanaian border. It is the administrative capital of Kloto Prefecture. Kpalimé has a population of 75,084, making it the fourth-biggest town in Togo, after Lomé, Sokodé and Kara. In town is a 1913 German-built church with a tall steeple. A craft center in nearby Kloto features traditional crafts such as woodcarving and batik. To the east, Mount Agou has trails and views across to Ghana. Northwest, on the Ghanaian border, Missahohé Forest is known for its butterflies.

Volunteers in Kpalimé are housed at either, our in-country Coordinator’s home, host family or volunteers’ house, depending on the project site. All accommodation environments allows volunteers to meet other travelers and to get to know each other better outside the work-site and forge friendships that will last a lifetime.

The accommodations of course are clean and comfortable and will quickly become your second home. The African and western style toilet and shower facilities are shared between 4 or 10 people and, while we can’t always guarantee the hottest water, the facilities are more than adequate. The accommodation is always equipped with a lounge, TV, Kitchen, hand washing facilities, telephones, and spare electricity sockets. Life at the accommodation facilities is simple, unsophisticated and fun, perfect for unwinding from a busy day!

You will be provided with three good quality meals every day, so you shouldn’t ever feel hungry. The food you will be provided with will consist of delicious local dishes, using fresh produce to create a cultural and tasty experience! Typically your diet will consist of rice, bread, cassava, Ablo, Gboma Detsi, sweet-potatoes, beans, noodles, banana with vegetables such as cabbage, avocado, spinach and eggplant. Water and tea/coffee are included throughout your stay whilst soft drinks (coke, sprite etc) and other beverages can be purchased from the local supermarkets in town.

The hard work volunteers put in during the week undoubtedly warrants some fun and relaxation during evening free time and on the weekends. During the week we organize a variety of activities for volunteers in the evenings. We often play football (soccer), cards and board games or chill out around the bar or go out for a dance getting to know fellow volunteers from around the world. We arrange city day tours and long-weekend beach holidays. No matter your interests, there is always something to enjoy!
